“Pastors’ Kids
Are The Worst”
The Weight of Being Watched
Growing up in the spotlight means growing up watched. Your name comes second to your parent’s role. Your mistakes outlast your kindness. And somewhere along the way, you learn to perform instead of speak. It happens to pastors’ kids. It happens to the children of ministers. It happens to anyone who grew up under eyes they never invited: a family name, a platform, a role that was never theirs to carry.
In this honest and heartfelt memoir, Eunice Kwaning pulls back the curtain on what it was really like, and shows that what looks like misbehaviour is often a response to pressure nobody ever named out loud. For the ones who lived it, for the parents and leaders who love them, and for everyone who watches, this book offers stories, guidance and practical tools for understanding and repair.
If you have ever lived under a spotlight you did not choose, this book is for you.

How is this different from other books on pastor’s kids?
It isn’t just my story. It’s written to bridge the gap between pastor’s kids, pastors and the congregation, with self-reflection questions and practical tools, so readers can examine their own thinking and choices.
It’s meant to make things better for pastor’s kids, for pastors, and for congregations, recognising that the expectations placed on pastor’s kids come from somewhere real, while still making space for honest understanding on all sides.

Venue and time will be announcedAbout me
I’m Eunice Kwaning. Ghanaian, born in the Netherlands, married with four children. My husband and I are both pastors. But before any of that, I am a pastor’s kid.
I was born into it, and I carried the pressure of it my whole life: the sense of being watched, of having to be something, of rarely having space to be simply a child making a child’s mistakes. A few years ago, God gave me a clear instruction to write about it. I postponed it for a long time. This book, Pastors’ Kids Are The Worst, is what happens when I finally said yes.
It’s for pastor’s kids, so they feel seen and understood, not judged differently just because of whose child they are. It’s for pastors and ministers, so they’re reminded that their children aren’t an extension of their calling but are part of it, and deserve the same attention, presence and safe space as anyone else in their care.
And really, it’s for anyone who has lived under a spotlight they didn’t choose, and for the people around them, inside the church or out, because what we sometimes see in pastor’s kids isn’t a reflection of who God is. It’s a reflection of how things were handled, and that can change.
